Since God made us male and female it's logical that along with John we have a feminine example of self-giving and humility. Before telling you about her, I would like to mention a couple of books that helped me reflect on the gifts of masculinity and femininity. (Homily for Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 21, 2014)
A lot of people believe in reincarnation and they go so far as to say that the New Testament teaches reincarnation. They point to Jesus' statement that John the Baptist "is Elijah, the one who is to come." (Mt 11:14) Therefore, they say, John is the reincarnation of Elijah. Today, however, when they ask John, "Are you Elijah?" he responds, "I am not." So how do you reconcile the two verses? (Homily for Third Sunday of Advents, December 14, 2014)
I am adverse to sharing personal troubles, but I would like to know if others have faced a similar situation and can offer any suggestion. On November 3 I purchased airline tickets for myself and the delegation going with me to Peru. Since I am returning on a different date, I purchased my ticket separately. All this is done by phone with a live person. I've done it a few times in the past, but this time I hit a snag:
When I look at my bank account a few days later, I discover I have been double booked. I call the booking agency and they inform me the airline has my money and I have to call them. I call the airline and they offer me a credit for a future flight. I plead that I need the money now and want a refund. They tell me I have to work through the booking agency. So I call the agency back and they say they will work on it but it may take a few weeks. Five weeks have passed and I am still in suspense about the money. This not only affects me, but people in Peru who I want to help. Have you experienced something similar from a booking agency or an airline? Do you have any suggestion for me? Homily Preparing Our Hearts Week 2, Presentation by Tamaya on Catholic Community Services begins at 13:56; Baptism of Ciel & Lilja follows (December 7, 2014)
